Freelancer payments will be sent and received only via Paypal : Click here to see the list of countries.
Buyers may also pay us for projects by check, money order, wire transfer or western union/money gram, but programmers can withdraw funds only via paypal - thanks.

Please read and follow these guidelines
Do not bid an hourly rate, this is not a job forum - people here are looking for specific amounts for completion of work based on the description they have provided. If you need more information to make your estimate, then please ask for more information in the project message boards.

Provide a good estimate to the buyer

Do not post your URL for the main website in bids.

Do not provide buyers any kind of contact information anywhere including message boards or "ask them to contact you" - if you can't post messages here or don't want to, you are not obligated to use our site. We monitor the site and boards (we will delete your account).

Do not bid $1, $5, etc., or bid amounts that are way too low, just to lowball or just to get attention and to get your bid in the top spot.

Do not create multiple accounts - we will remove all accounts and ban you from future use.

Ask the buyer to pay via escrow account, so you may know that they are serious and also have the funds to pay.

Frelancer FAQ

General

How does this work?
Browse the list of projects posted by businesses for the ones you would be interested in, or have FreelanceAuction.com send you an e-mail anytime a new project is posted that fits under your expertise. Then you can decide to place a bid on the project, as well as provide details of the work you can do. Update or retract your bid anytime you want. When the project creator chooses a Freelancer (winning bid) you will be notified. If you are chosen you can begin work on the project and get paid.

How much does this cost?
There is a non-refundable account signup fee and no monthly fee, but you are required to give FreelanceAuction.com a commission on each project you win. The commission is 10% of your bid (minimum $10).

How do I communicate with Project Managers?
You can post messages on the message boards. If you post a private message, only the user it's addressed to will be able to see it, that user will also be notified by e-mail that you posted a project for them.

Projects & Bidding

How do I place a bid on a project?
Click on the "Place Bid" button which you can find on the project page (there's one above and another below the list of current bids).

How do I update a bid I already placed on a project?
Just submit a new bid and your old one will automatically be removed.

How do I cancel a bid I placed?
Log in to the account management area, find the project, and click on the "retract bid" link.

What if I have a question about a project (that will help me place my bid)?
Just post a message on the message board for that project. You can access project specific message boards by clicking on the link provided on the project page.

Why can't I find the "Place Bid" button on the project page?
If the project is closed it does not show up, because bidding has ended. It will also not show up if the project is frozen, which means bidding has temporarily been stopped.

What is "bid for the total project"?
This is the amount (in U.S. dollars) that you will charge the project creator, if you are chosen. It's a project total, NOT an hourly rate.

What if I can't make an accurate bid? Can I just estimate how much I will charge for the project?
You should not make any estimates. The information provided should be enough to decide how long it will take you to finish the project. If there is not enough info, use the message board to ask additional questions to the project creator before placing your bid. Remember, by placing a bid you enter into a legally binding contract. If you abuse this system you risk receiving poor reviews by others, and possibly being banned from FreelanceAuction.com.

What if I want to change my bid or cancel my bid altogether?
To change your bid you can just put a new bid and the old bid will be automatically removed. To cancel your bid, just login to your account and click on the link to retract bid for the corresponding project.

Payments & Fees

When do you charge your commission and how much will it be?
As soon as you are chosen as the Freelancer for a project you have bid on it will be closed/archived and you will be charged 10% of your bid, or $10, whichever is greater.

Do I have to add money to my account?
Not right away, but eventually you will probably have to. If your account balance is below zero dollars for more than 30 days your account will be frozen. You will not be able to place any new bids on projects.

How do I add money to my account?
Login to the account management area and click on the "deposit" button.

How/Can I withdraw money from my account?
Login to the account management area and click on the "withdraw" button. At this time we only send money via PayPal account - you must have a PayPal account in order to receive money.

If I end up charging the project owner less than I bid on their project, can I get a partial refund on the commission FreelanceAuction.com takes?
No. All bids are final and so are commissions based on the winning bid.

If I am unable to start/complete the project, can I get my commission credited?
Yes, if you notify within a week and if they buyer does not pay you to get the project started but once you start the work and if you do not complete or stop working or if the buyer is disatissfied, it will not be refunded. When your bid is picked, you will be notified via email and asked to either accept or decline the project. Once you accept it, you must ask the buyer to make arrangement for a partial payment and then show them the work (upload on your server), make sure you complete the work and they are satisfied before you deliver the final project and then ask them to pay and rate you.

I have bad experiences in the past where buyers have not paid - how can I make sure I get paid promptly from the buyer?
We have an escrow feature on our website. Before you start the work ask the buyer to put money in the escrow (they can do so by logging into their account) and this way the buyer can transfer money to your account, when you finish the project but the buyer cannot retract the money and if necessary site admin can help sort things out if any issues arise later.

Commission Payments and Fair Business : Currently, things are simple - you place your bid, follow our policies and when your bid is selected, start and complete the work and pay our commissions as soon as you get paid -OR- ask the buyer to pay you through our site so we can account and deduct commissions properly and pay you the rest once you have been rated. Accounts with negative balances will be automatically frozen by our software so you will need to pay the commissions on time.
